The Black Boy literacy Campaign

Changing 1000 1st-3rd Graders Through Reading

Join us in our mission to promote literacy and education! The Black Boy Literacy Campaign aims to help 1,000 boys between first and third grade in the Chicagoland area reach the third-grade reading level by Christmas 2023. We believe that literacy is essential for personal growth and spiritual development, and we’re excited to launch this campaign to support the education and development of young boys in our community.

Welcome to the Black Boy Literacy Campaign!

We are dedicated to empowering young black boys through literacy and education. Our campaign revolves around the four essential pillars known as the 4 C’s: Christ, Connection, Confidence, and Competency. By focusing on these elements, we strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment where black boys can thrive academically and personally.

Christ

At the core of our campaign is the belief that faith plays a significant role in a child's development. We recognize the importance of nurturing spiritual growth and character formation.

Connection

Through our mentorship programs, we create meaningful relationships between black boys and mentors who provide guidance, support, and inspiration.

Confidence

We believe that exposure to diverse literary materials, including books where black boys are portrayed as protagonists, is essential for boosting their confidence and self-esteem.

Competency

We are committed to ensuring that black boys develop strong literacy skills and academic competencies. Our programs focus on enhancing their reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities.

Help us make Chicago a better place for our boys

Did you know that a large percentage of black boys in Chicago are not proficient in reading by the third grade? This alarming statistic highlights the need for our literacy campaign. We are committed to changing this trend and giving black boys the tools they need to succeed.
